Circular Economy for Economic Modernization
The dramatic geopolitical crises are bringing strategies such as energy independence and the circular economy into focus. Katharina Rogenhofer and Johanna Roniger from KONTEXT Institute will present key findings from three studies demonstrating the transformative potential of the circular economy for economic modernization, competitiveness and resilience.

Webinar Overview
The first study uses an input-output model to demonstrate that the construction and steel sectors can transition toward circularity with significant resource and CO₂ savings, without job losses or economic decline.
The second study models the substantial opportunities the recycling industry holds for Austria's economy, competitiveness and labour market. Case studies from the plastics, buildings and metals sectors illustrate how companies are already turning circular innovation into competitive advantage.
The third study provides a comprehensive analysis of the EU's supply chain risks around critical raw materials, maps the associated economic exposure and identifies circular economy measures as among the most effective levers for reducing strategic dependencies.
KONTEXT will further invite for a discussion on the most impactful policy measures across key sectors and offer concrete recommendations for the upcoming Circular Economy Act.
The studies are financed by the European Climate Foundation and were conducted in cooperation with the Federal Environment Agency and the Supply Chain Intelligence Institute Austria (ASCII).
